The 2002 Tokushu Anime J-Pop Music Awards
Page 1 | Page 2

And here we are… finally its time for the Tokushu Anime 2002 J-Pop Music Awards! As we wait for all the stars to file into their assigned seats I just want to take the time to thank all of you for voting and support our site! Continue to purchase your J-Pop through our yesasia link to help us keep our charts running. Well without much further ado let’s get on to our first award. The presenter for this award will be the very talented and beautiful Kyoko Fukada…

The nominees for Best Pop Group are:
Chemistry
Kinki Kids
Morning Musume
The Gospellers
V6
W-inds

And the winner is… Morning Musume
A very very close race between the gals of Momusu and Chemistry but down to the wee bit hours Morning Musume pulled out the award… just barely though! It has been great years for both these groups and a sort of changing of the guard for Morning Musume with new members added and others leaving but I guess fans still view them the same way ^_^

The nominees for Best Rock Group are:
Arashi
B’z
Glay
Mr. Children
Porno Graffiti
Road of Major
Tokio
Zone

And the winner is… Mr. Children
Wow what another close race to start off the awards! It’s the age old question of “who is better?” Mr. Children or Glay? Even though there are like 8 nominees we all know it’s either going to be one of those 2. This year it’s Mr. Children! Congrats to them!

The nominees for Best Rap Group are:
Dragon Ash
Rip Slyme
Kick the Can Crew
King Gidra

And the winner is… Rip Slyme
Major congrats to Rip Slyme on their victory! In their second year on the J-Pop scene they have already taken the “Best Rap Group” of the year by upsetting the early favorite Dragon Ash. Too bad DA didn’t do much for the 2nd half of the year so this award nearly fell into the hands of Rip Slyme.

The nominees for Best Pop Artist are:
Ayumi Hamasaki
Hirai Ken
Hitomi Shimatani
Mai Kuraki
Rina Aiuchi
Utada Hikaru

And the winner is… Utada Hikaru
With very good years coming out of all the contestants I think it was really a 2 woman race. Yea you guessed it… Hikki Vs Ayu again. This time Hikki came out on top. It might just be because of the quality of the singles over the quantity.

The nominees for Best New Artist are:
Hajime Chitose
Mach 25
Miki Fujimoto
Minmi
Road of Major
Yellow Generation

And the winner is… Hajime Chitose
The race became a lot closer than we first anticipated but the outcome was no different. Hajime Chitose behind her record breaking 16 weeks on the countdown takes home the “Best New Artist” award for 2002. Who knows how many more awards she will be receiving in the future!

The nominees for Best Breakout Artist are:
Aya Matsuura
BoA
Hiro
Hitomi Shimatani
Mika Nakashima
Rip Slyme
Zone

And the winner is… BoA
Last years “Best New Artist” winner Zone was running high in this competition as well as Hitomi Shimatani who made the 10 week club on the countdown but to many people’s surprise BoA came out the winner. This chick came from barely making Oricon at the beginning of the year to holding down a number 2 spot on our charts! Good job BoA!

Well it’s a general intermission now so hurry up and buy your pop corn before we resume… in the meantime enjoy the live performance by Do As Infinity :P
